Underground Tango - July 2004
They started at the Buckingham Fountain and then the lights turned off.
Then they moved to the lakefront but the police informed them that
the parks were closing and that the underground tango addicts would have to move.
At that moment I think these biker cops saw into the hearts of
this group, the passion that drives them, because they also quietly suggested
places where they could go that would be hidden from other police!
This suggestion included lollipops for all of us. Chicago's finest.
Luck was with us. The place was beautiful ...with the Chicago skyline as a backdrop
and the trees blocked the wind. So...the vinyl was unrolled, the duct tape was applied,
the cd player was turned on.....and then we danced into the wee hours.
Thank you everyone for a fantastic time and for making it so clear - why we tango.
Hanging out in the hallway..Filand with his marshmallows and the rest of us
wondering if we should sleep here..
They sleep for 3 (maybe) hours and then...dance again ! (before the sleeping bags are put away) This is Saturday.
Then we drive for 2 hours and guess....we dance again for 3 hours..
Of course, we went to a milonga Saturday night also (we forgot to take pictures). But we did sleep in late on Sunday. Before the round table on Sunday, we had a terrific brunch which was prepared by Chica and Julia.
Then on Monday night, a group of us went dancing in Chicago at Phoebe and Leroy's Alternative Milonga.
And then, Iulia, Don and I went dancing on Tuesday. Check out the swollen feet. ..and yes the shoes are fuzzy.
Oh, and in one photo, Don and I are dancing Filand style.
Other pictures from other events...I added them because this group is remarkable!
